Did a heater blower on a Volvo 240. That doesn't require you to remove the full dash, but by the time you're done you start to wonder if it would have been easier if you had. It's about a six hour job, most of it under the dash. I removed the driver's seat before starting to save my back.

I did the heater core on the VW Cabriolet earlier this year, but for that job I cheated and took a hacksaw to the side of the heater box. To my mind I was just making the access panel that should have been there to start with.

It looks daunting. But, if you have done it... It's not so bad.

What are you doing in there? Is that a birds nest in the cowl?
I have a dash squeak and have been tempted to dump a can or two of expandable foam in behind the dash.

I removed the dash and heater box on my 240D to repair the heater core. Now that I own a W126, I'm curious as to how the job compares to the W123. Have you taken out a W123 dash before? Thanks

I have not, but I imagine it is nearly the same procedure. Just comparing the pictures included in this thread is very interesting - the w123 looks very similar in design (obviously being in the same era MB), just not as wide.
