Could be a good call from Sixto...
So I changed the oil and filter... And using my stethascope, I could not pin down one area on the valve cover that was worse... So i put it on the belt tensioner... near blew my ear off! I then stopped the motor, and punched out the bolt to remove the belt. The tensioner span straight, and true but it sound rough..

There are two things to check in the tensioner. The pulley is one - make sure it spins true and doesn't make noise. The tensioner pivot is the other - make sure it rotates smoothly about its axis and doesn't wobble about its axis. When the pivot bearing wears, the tensioner rotates in 'clicks' about its axis. That's not good. There's also the tensioner damper that knocks as the end bushings wear.

I think I will just replace both the pulley and the tensioner..

I see a little slack in the damper bushing... is that ok?

What I do when there's a noise is wedge a big screwdriver blade between the damper bushing and cylinder head. If the noise goes away, that was the problem. Not so easy to do on the bottom bushing.

Another issue just popped up, and I am wondering if its connected...
Last few times I drove it, I could smell Diesel... I had put it down to the fact that one of the dim teenagers had put the can of Diesel Klean on its side in the trunk, and it had pressurized in the heat and weeped a cup full into the side pocket... But today, I had the hood open and see Diesel leaking from the #2 Injector.. Its coming from between the Body of the injector and the hex nut.. I did a search, but could not find any similar discussions.. Is there a seal, or will the Injector have to be replaced?

After further study I have come to the conclusion that you have a teenager infestation.

You have to remove the food source, purge the clothing and lock up the liqour.
Or so I have been told... Try tightening the nut.

Cam Followers
Is there a DIY or article on this site on how to replace these cam followers?

Get a FSM. There's a specific sequence for loosening and tightening the cam towers.
Lifters, lash adjusters, tappets, doohickeys... Sixto 87 300D |

my 190d made the same valvetrain ticking noise when the oil level was high. Didn't realize this at first. dumped in a bottle of lucas and it got worse! It leaked a lot of oil, when I found it was low, topped it up. Noise returned. Didn't realize it had stopped for a while until it returned. Left the oil around 1/2 way full and the noise mostly went away.

There were several TSB's about this IIRC.
