Today I came across a 500SE Euro, manual CC, brown Volure interior that is not in all that bad of condition. 158053K
What is really cool is, on the R/R side of the trunk is a large sticker that is printed :AMG Motorenbau 7151 Affalterbach - Tel. 07144-3119

The CC has 3 thumb wheels for temp control and a twist knob for the fan (like the 240`s) with 4 positions. the other knob changes the air flow for def, floor or a combination.

The car isn`t too screwed up YET, but with the week end sale.

Nah, that's what the rabbit diesel is for.

I am surprised at the lack of adventure of some people on this board. Whenever someone wants to do something different people tend to get a bit discouraging, where as on other boards creativity is is welcomed and encouraged.

I fully support you... I just don't have enough to offer in a full post.

I have to say, this has been a dream of mine for a while. 560SEC with a 606 turbo. Funding and time are the typical roadblocks.

You can do it, you will have to get comfortable with electrical and become very organized.

This might help:

Let us know when you start in a different thread, I'll follow it and help when I can.

PS... this is not the place to ask questions about this body / model and its intricacies.

Lack of adventure??? Your subject line is "Keepin it simple." I don't know about anyone else but I'm trying to oblige.

Seriously, I'm sure most who contribute want you to be aware that some of your ideas towards a spartan engine bay will mean hours of work and less functionality than if you left things alone. I enjoy a good project. Heck, I enjoy wrenching more than driving. If I had the time, I'd rather swap the manual AC system from that 500SE into your SEC than spend a minute behind the wheel (and I don't mean just because of the Diesel conversion). I'd give myself 50 hours for that task with both cars side-by-side. Is that the adventure you have in mind?

Also, make sure you know how the engine bay will look when you've removed everything that "doesn't belong." A monovalve isn't as ugly as the hole it leaves behind and the leaves that'll move in. You're better off laying a cover over the pocket behind the engine than removing and patching everything in there.

I know there are many supporters of going against the grain in here, but it seems whenever anyone brings up some strange conversion or alternative fuel there are so many ready to dissuade them. Anyway, moving on. I guess "keeping it simple" was maybe not the right choice of words as I am aware that the task of "simplifying" the engine bay will be somewhat of a contradiction to the final result. but I plan on doing a bit of cutting, welding and patching for all the holes and brackets that are unnecessary. Don't think I'll be going as far as this:

But I know the bay of my SD is a bit more pleasant to look at then the bay of the 560. Minus of course the fact that there's a big pretty V8 in there. Plus it's a little less intimidating to work under the hood of the SD.

On a plus side though as mentioned I am learning a bit as I trace wires and figure out what each component does and figure out whether or not I need it or can slightly alter something to relocate or replace it.
Appreciate the help by the way guys.

Certain topics can be polarizing. Something about having a daughter changes the way you think about stripper poles

Speaking of which, do you have a TD engine with an SLS pump or will you convert to conventional springs and shocks in the rear?

The rear has been converted to bilsteins and springs. Although I am toying with the thought of air bags suspension.
