I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the carfax report. My experience is that those are often less than totally accurate if the car is over ten years old anyway, and especially if the owner (like yourself and most of us here) has had multiple of the same model cars.

I had a pristine 300D that was confused by carfax as having been the same car that was rear ended and totaled 2 years earlier and 20 thousand miles more on the clock. That was a completely different 300D.

Also, this might be a blessing in disguise. Just recently, the same thing happened to me, a guy backed 40 feet across a parking lot into the passenger door of my van (freshly repainted). My van was totalled by the insurance company, and i received a 2100 dollar check for a couple hundred dollars of real damage. I just have to find and hang a new door and paint it. The door even still works. I used that 2 grand to buy all kinds of shop equipment from a closing auto shop, and, my state does not issue titles over 10 years, so there is no such thing as a salvage title for a car that old.

Really sorry to hear that. I know the feeling.

Life is not always fair, but things like this do force us to gain a broader perspective. Not that I was looking for a broader perspective. I would have been happy with the perspective I had. I can only trust that all things happen for a reason.

Sorry to hear that John. My 300D was hit in the back not too long ago. Tail lights were pushed in, broke some tabs inside the trunk (tail light mounting). Trunk is pushed in a bit as well and of course the US bumpers took the brunt of the hit - TWICE.

She was accelerating from a dead stop right behind my car, thinking the car in front of her already moved. That, or it's true she sneezed and stepped on the gas instead of the brake So the first impact made the car bounce, I braked and she was still accelerating. So BAM, another hit.

Waiting on the insurance claims adjuster to come by inspect the 300D. I did have soreness the next day.

KEEP THOSE US BUMPERS!

I'm worried about this happening when my SDL comes to DC. Tweedle dumb and Tweeedle dumber already roast the clutch on my TDI when pulling it out of the parking garage
