C4C was retarded, considering how much energy it takes to build a new car. Not to mention that it required buying a new car -- some of the cars wrecked could have been used to replace old cars that got EVEN worse MPG, where the owners couldn't afford to buy new.

Thanks, Obama & Co! (and I'm generally pretty liberal)

I wonder how many "ineligible" cars were actually clunked....

I've seen over a hundred m117's powered MB's (450, 500 and 560) plus another hundred 380 and 420 powered MB's, and various newer MB V-8 in the yards with C4C orange paint on the engines. MB had plenty of C4C (stupid for the planet) early deaths.

Because the program was hastily and poorly designed and generally executed by misinformed imbeciles. I've tried really hard to forget it happened ...

That would be the definition of government from the Prez all the way down.

Those who can DO.... those who can't work for the government.

Its not just the clunker program. This country destroys endless perfectly usable things every day. Buildings, cars, appliances.....the list goes on. Practically any car in a california junk yard is going to be rust free and probably has some mechanical issues. Then they scrap them. Heck americans waste enough FOOD every day to feed small countries. All of this simply shows that "hard times" aren't exactly the case for most. If times were truly hard, no one would be wasting anything.

I think it had nothing to do with energy or clunkers or gas mileage. It was just an excuse to destroy old stuff so the government could stimulate the economy by having companies employ more people to make more new stuff.

I am happy with my old stuff, thank you very much.

If this Clunker program was to Stimulate the Economy, I think it was suppose to Stimulate the American Economy not the Foreign Economy.

Wasn`t it to get the American car Co`s up and running?

I know I sure saw a lot of nice cars in the yards under this program. there are a lot of good low milage parts that were crushed and gone forever. there were so many cars in the program, they were moved in and out fast and crushed.

I was talking to one of the workers a couple weeks back, and he said there are times that they get too many cars in, and can`t set them in the yard. so they just get crushed.

The whole thing was a feel good program. The politicians feel good that they acomplished something. the car buyer feels good that they got something for nothing or a good deal.
The Government put the country deeper in debt giving out tax credits and or money they didn`t have. the buyer went deeper in debt making payments for "XX" number of years on a car they may not have bought anyway, plus higher registration and insurance fees.

Hey, praying for a double dip here, hope the budget talks flunk miserably and undo all of Obama & Co's "good" work. For one thing, I want housing to go even more into the toilet so I can pick up some cheap rental property and rent it to people who lost theirs!

For another, Dow 6000 would be awesome. Made some money last time round, but I didn't have the b@lls to go at it hard core -- this time I'll hit it hard.

Thats the way its suppose to be in todays Ultra rich ruling econony , Chinese crap is king and if you cant afford a well built car you go for a used one that last.Im suspecting the car companies want the hammer to go down on the old stuff so they can recycle it in to new chinese built imports with an american manufacturer name.It will come full circle eventually and bicycles made in China will be offered in 1,2, or 3 seat variety.I understand that most steel from the USA is being exported to China so this is not far off from being the real deal.First subject on any CEOs mind is cost and efficiency, its the killer of profits.Crashing cars through a Govt program to increase their sales would be a natural win / win scenario with zero cost to them .Plenty of money goes into employees who work for corporations that look for ways to screw you plenty of ways.

Bingo! C-4-C was a commodity metal grab by China, negotiated / taken from USA as material goods in lieu of yet more printed $USD paper stuff... USA has to repay that debt somehow. This was one way to pay a part.

Take money out of taxpayer pocket in exchange for their car to pay USA debt. You paid for your neighbor's clunker in that pile.

Then tell all Americans it's good for stimulating their economy. Brilliant, gun to the head plan, courtesy China.
