84 190d fan clutch fix

Its been 2 weeks now that Ive had the old 190d on the road ,Im still having issues with squaking pulleys and a fan clutch that works at periods of time. The fan uses a magnetic clutch that registers temp readings and engages the clutch fan when temped up.Looking closer at the piece I just want to throw a couple of tact welds to have the fan running 24/7 .Is this recommended? The new magnetic clutch piece is north of $400 .If I go to the yard and find a fan clutch off another 190 will this work ,seems to be that this clutch is engine and year specific.

How do you know the fan is faulty? The fan is controlled by the temp switch at top of engine block. Short the connector to chassis and the fan will be on all the time. I think the fan turns on very very rarely, even at idle with high ambient temp.

I have wired a switch to turn on the fan if needed by shorting the connector to chassis. You can do the same to check out the fan and leave it on whenever the engine is running. I really do no see any issue. I think fan from gas car should be compatible but I am not sure.

Its true. The fan is set to come on until 100 degrees C.

If you lock it up, you may eat through tensioners quicker and have slightly lower fuel mileage.... but the engine was designed to spin the fan so... whatevs.

I am quite certain you can use the clutch from a 190e. I have teaken them both apart and have found no differences visually. Problem is though, you have to pull that clutch off the water pump unless that is the same (uncertain).

The fan clutch should engage after the engine warms up ,thru light to light traffic recently I was seeing some really high temp numbers .Ive decided not to drive the car for now til I know everything is 100%.I do have current coming to the piece it just seems that the engagement piece is worn ,its noisey as hell.Im first checking to see my alternative and the one idea on grounding the piece sounds great, this can also give me the final word on if the clutch is bad .
