Arrow '83 300D Suspension noise. with video.

Youtube video

My wife came home and told me the car was making a weird noise. I went out to look and OMG that is the most awful noise I have ever heard from a car.

The video pretty much enplanes it all. Its last "LOF" was about 4k miles ago, I don't know how much L is included in the LOF, but it was at a non dealer Mercedes Benz friendly shop, where the car was always serviced before I got it.

Also, as said in the video, the "front end" was rebuilt @ 298k miles in 10/09.

upper/lower control arms/bushings, tie rods, idler arm.

Inventive video editing!

I guess you need to check the play on the upper and lower ball joints - you might find that the squeaking can be reduced by spraying some WD40 under the rubber boots. THIS IS NOT A FIX! It just lets you know which bit needs to be replaced.

I had a very similar noise, turned out to be a failing lower ball joint. Inspect all ball joints for torn boots and as suggested, spray some lubricant to isolate.

At 1:13 there is a telltale confirmation of the concern. There is rust dust coming from what appears to be a split lower ball joint dust boot, and it is spread over the lower portion of the knuckle. I would check for play and replace it if it were mine. Look at the other side as well.

OK, so I jacked up the front and had a closer look and feel around.

The noise and vibration by touch seems to be coming from this; see attachment....

Forgive my terminology if it is wrong. It is where the track bar ataches to the lower control arm. The white stuff is some spay lube i shot at it

That's the guide rod, not sure if there is a rubber bushing there.

There are two rubber bushings in this guide rod mount that connects to the LCA.

Here's a picture
