On the Volvo: scenarios such as that one, high mileage first owner then sold on with no books/records, are very common. Lots of high-miler auction cars "lose" their service books.

I bought two such cars (albeit back in the 240 era) with excellent results. It's my theory that enerally people doing high mileage take care of their cars better than grandma who drives 1,500 miles a year and never thinks about that service book in the glove compartment. But that is just my opinion....

On the 300td's: there are several threads on the SLS issue and varying opinions on the options available to replace the system. None will give you a factory feel, from what I can tell.

For example, there is one guy who is a proponent of using w116 springs, but IIRC others are a skeptical of his claims concerning effectiveness.

I believe one person on the other list did succeed in ordering some springs from Europe that work well. But it was a project in itself just to get them.

Interestingly a guy 2 hours from me has a Euro 300TD for sale, manual trans, manual heat, no AC installed, manual windows, but no turbo... Car looks nice, and it's priced around $5k...
