rattle...(no, not the motor)...door?
I've been chasing a rattle. First thought it was a bad shock. Then, maybe engine mounts. Then, engine mount-damper. Now I'm thinking it is in the driver's side door jam--> the door check strap hinge? Looks like there has been white grease frequently applied to the hinge for the check strap on the door frame.
I took it apart and greased it with syth axle grease. Seemed to change the tone and frequency of the rattle but now it is back with a vengeance. Someone mentioned to me a later(?) version that had a grease nipple? Other ideas sincerely appreciated. Right now my only relief is to turn up the stereo... |

I bought a couple (for when the 1st breaks) of cheap stethoscopes from HarborFreight. They help find squeaks & rattles. My 85SD has grease fittings on the hinges, not door check.
Replace your door checks if the door doesn't open smooth and easy. I didn't realize how bad mine were. Do all 4 if you plan on keeping the car. No sense having a good perfectly working door that shows how bad the others are. The good news is you can grease the window regulator while the door card is off for the check. You can also look for something loose if it is in fact your door that is rattling.
