350sdl VS 300sdl exhaust system
I have a 90 350sdl that is in need of a new exhaust system. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a difference between the 300 and 350 exhaust system, I can get a 300 Sdl exhaust system for less and would like to if it would fit my 350sdl. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks Sean

Most 300SDLs have a cat. The 350 does not need one.

I have just ordered two new exhaust pipes for my 86 300 SDL. The "front" pipe and the "mid or Rear" pipe. The rear pipe has a resonator. There is not a Cat on a 300 SDL. I have have one hell of a time finding anyone that carries exhaust for this car at all. In fact, the only one that still makes them (as far as I know) is a company called Ansa. I ordered them from JC Whitney and they canceled my order because they are out of stock. I called them back and the guy re-did my order and put them on back order so they can be drop shipped directly from the manufacturer. I was told 3 weeks. I'm waiting. I think the two systems should be very similar, but I'm not sure.

Ansa is crap. Just go to the dealer and buy something that will last, I did. Yes, most SDL's have a cat. Mine did.

Well, mine is an 86 300 SDL, and no cat. Scroll down to 126

CAT or no CAT
My Cali Car had a CAT....still does (in a box) while I'm testing no CAT performance.

86-87 SDL as delivered has no cat. Cat is added during trap oxidizer recall. On the 124 the exhaust is modified so a non-cat downpipe won't bolt in place of a cat downpipe. I expect the same is true for the 126.
Someone is swapping a 300SDL engine into a 350SDL. Ask him to compare exhaust systems since he has the cars side-by-side. Have you checked timevalve.com? If you have a source of 86-87 SDL downpipes with no cat, please share it. Sixto 87 300D |

Search eBay for "300sdl exhaust" I found three sections from turbo to tips adding to $570 shipped. The downpipe picture isn't clear but it looks to have a non-cat 3-hole flange. Correspondingly, the resonator section has a 3-hole flange. Imagine that. I suppose if you get the entire Bosal system it should all work... or at least fit. I didn't see anything worthwhile in a search for "350sdl exhaust"

Why bother with all of that? Just have a stainless system fabricated? If money is an issue use mild steel tubing. Any good exhaust fabricator can make a top notch system as they do for hot rods and customs.
What is your goal? Just making the exhaust not leak? Keeping it original? Having that "feel good" feeling that you just spent a crap load of money on your old benz?

Well, after 10 hours searching on the computer, I found both pipes, (I think, I hope) Both Bosal. Timevalve wanted like $700.00 for the two pipes! Ouch! I'm sure it's worth it for stainless steel.
If anyone has this problem finding these pipes, I'll save you a whole lot of time, here are the part numbers: Ansa front pipe me8441 Ansa center pipe with resonator me8445 Although, nobody had them in stock, including Ansa! Bosal front pipe 886-361 Bosal center pipe with resonator 278-359 This is for 86-87 300 SDL |

Timevalve is stainless, Bosal is not... nor is Ansa. I would not put Bosal or Ansa on any of my cars unless I was going to sell them soon.
From what I remember, I purchased Eberspacher from the dealer.
