It Cost Me $90 To Fill Up My SD Today And $120 For An Oil Change!

Today I filled the tank on the SD and it cost $90. Biodiesel was $5.699 per gallon. 15 gallons later... I thought biodiesel was supposed to cost less than diesel. Saving money certainly isn't one of the benefits.

Also, I bought 2.5 gallons of Amsoil because my car takes 8 quarts of oil. After adding the price of a filter, it cost me $120 (Amsoil raised their prices, too). And that's if I do the labor myself!

I know you have to pay more for things sometimes, but wow... Things sure are going up in price!

This is what separates us car enthusiasts from the regular car owners.

My usual fill up is $100 even.... :( IF it wasn't for the 29 mpg and my love of these old beasts i'd have sold it long ago..

TheDon 07-27-2011 12:37 AM

I only pay about 55-60 to fill my car and that lasts up to 8 days. Oil changes are about $30 each as well.

It cost me $51 to fill my SD a couple days ago.....that was from just after the warning light was on.......and an oil change costs me about $54 with two gallons of rotella synthetic and a $12 top of the line baldwin made in USA oil filter.....

bustedbenz 07-27-2011 01:12 AM

Filling the SD costs me about $65 these days.

Oil change...... hmm. Bosch filter, $10-15 from here now? (too tired to look it up)
Two gallons of Rotella 15W40: $35-40 depending on where I buy.
If I do my own work, oil change for $60ish just depending on stuff. I've only ever bought an oil change once... didn't have time to take it home to the garage from school. Put my own oil and my own filter on the seat, they charged $15 for oil change with my materials and tire rotation.

$57 to fill up in Bellevue. ($3.99 a gallon for D2)

$37 for an oil change (rotella 5w40 euro blend diesel oil)

And thanks to Napa I'll only spend $71 for the rear pads, rotors, and e brake shoes. :D

Aquaticedge 07-27-2011 01:29 AM

wow.... Diesel has been 3.85/9 the last few times I've filled...

Skippy 07-27-2011 01:35 AM

I filled up from reserve today for about $13.50...

But that was my bike. A fill for the 300D runs about 55 bucks. An oil change with 2 gallons of Rotella 5W40 plus filter generally runs a bit over 50. My last fillup in the diesel was with B99.9@3.90 per gallon. Dino is now a tiny bit cheaper, but I like to fill with bio every third or fourth tank to keep the lubricity up.

B99 is only $3.99 down here in Portland. Why the major price difference I wonder.

Also Oregon gives a $.50 per gallon tax credit (not deduction).

I know we all have our oil allegiances, but why not switch to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck? You can get two gallons for under $50 at Walmart. Still full synthetic.

STOP wasting money.

* Use diesel when it is cheaper.
* Amsoil is no better for your engine than any other 100% synthetic oil, especially if you change sooner than every 15000 miles.

I have a 5 gallon diesel tank for start up and shut down fuel and it costs me around $9 to top up (2 to 2.5 gal) every 2 weeks and I go about 1,000 miles. WVO goes in the 23 gal main tank.

I think he means 1000 miles on wvo, using the d2 for starting and shut down.

I am assuming your tongue is planted firmly in cheek?
