sourcing that test pipe and keeping the EGR elex just to have a tach sound pretty awful. i don't think we have the down pipe either (this is downstream of the exhaust manifold right?). i'm having second thoughts about this engine because of the additional complexities. if we had a whole donor car i guess it would be fine, but finding more than a part or two from 85s sounds challenging. i won't get the benefit of the 2.88 diff. charmalu, maybe you can reflect on how often the 85s pop up in the san jose / moss landing yards? (i am from santa cruz btw.)
I think I have everything you need in my shed and I am just down the coast from you in the Carmel area. All from an 85 300SD. Let me know if you still need it, and I will verify that I still have it.-Scott

This thread has kind of slipped past me a bit.How is the project coming along?

The 85 617 engine, has a different size hole in the end of the crank for a pilot bearing than all the other 617 engines of past years for some reason. I don`t remember if it is larger or smaller off hand.

TOMJ and RLEO back in 04 I believe were doing some trans swaps and there is a thread TomJ did on the bearing. I look through my notes for it.

JEREMY5848 mentioned the automatic trans for the Calif model is some what different. I ran into that problem doing an oil & filter change. filter is the same, but the pan and gasket are different. they use the one the later 124 and 201 use.
