" what a good dog!"

LOL, that's funnnnny!

Capt. Kirk
These Lada's were made with the tooling sold to them from FIAT,
specifically the 124 sedan (which was an absolutely delightful car, as are all FIAT's ) But of course they screwed it up and made it handle like a Checker. Trabbies, now that is car worth saving-but the dog could eat the body panels as well as the interior, as the panels are made out of some sort of cellulose material. There is one featured in a James Bond movie-I think it is a Trabant-Joe Don Baker and Peirce Brosnan.

Which of those East German cars had a body made out of some sort of plastic or composite material - the Trabant or the Wartburg? ("Wartburg"...har har, I love that name...)
Were they both 2 strokes?
I have always wondered about the Lada, as I really like the Fiat 124, and wonder how the Ruskies screwed it up. Did they use the same engine as the 124, or a variant of the Italian design? Obviously they cut corners in a major way.
(I have to say, that if you can keep Italian cars clean & sprayed with "Waxoyl" or the like, so they don't rust, they are all amongst the very most entertaining cars on the planet to drive)

Ducati

You and I are on the same wave length about Italian cars. I won't go on about their handling finess-partly because this is a MB forum and we are greatful so far for letting this thread continue...
If you drive a Honda from the 80's, you will find this same spirit but in a modern format. Great cars. Hard to believe? Mr. Honda was a hands on technician who imbued his cars with this verve-quite unusual when compared to a Toyota Corolla-what a bore!

I have to confess that I have never owned a Honda. I have nothing against them; almost everybody else that I know who isn't into some idiosyncratic cult car like Alfa, Fiat, VW Bugs...or MB...drives Honda's, it seems. (and a couple of Camry's thrown in there) My best buddy drives a Del Sol.
I considered a CRX Si back a decade ago, but I didn't skateboard, have green hair, dance to HipHop, nor was I into the Import Racing scene. The Honda just was not me. So I drove a Buick Grand National and enjoyed my motorcycles. Now that I am in my late forties (Time Flies when you are in a Coma) and the effects of too many bike crashes has taken its toll on my already party-ravaged body, I want a more sedate and comfortable car that would be more useful, reliable, keep me out of trouble, and had "personality". I did have an MB back in the halcyon days of the early eighties. And I was aware of the diesels reputation.
"Ergo Ipsum Absolutum" - therefore, I am here...I think.
