Sorry, It's 5/8 hose. I've been fooling with too many hoses

I found the same thing you did. 1/2 was too small and 5/8 fit exactly like you say.

The crimp is about 3/4" from the center of the 1st crimp to the center of the last. I actually sacrificed one of the ferrells by crimping it around a hose with no fitting and measured the crimped ID of the rubber hose. The crimp is behind the 1st "big barb" so it won't slip off.

I think it's gonna be OK.

Did yours work out OK?

if this works well, I forsee a business for you crimping member's oil cooler hoses!

send me a PM message if you want to be included in the Tool Rental thread, or if you want to set up shop for members I'd need to contact the webmaster.

That answered all of my Questions! Good Luck with your project.

A clamp is a clamp as long as its rated for the work load.

I used the hard lines from a 76 300D, they don't have that stupid route under the mount arm. Hose is Parker 836.

I used some T-Bar clamps when I did mine. I don't*like how the worm type claps cut into the hose. I used 2 on each end. One seemed to be enough but I wanted to be very sure.

I took my hose to a local hydraulic shop. They crimped the original ends onto a section of forklift hose and added a swivel that would let one end rotate slightly during install. About $10 cheaper than ordering online and a lot sturdier hose.

What Size did you use and where did you get them?

When I did my Hoses I spent a lot of time doing internet searches and never found any T-bar/Bolt Clamps that would squeeze down to an ID small enough for the GoodYear Push Lock Hose.

hmm. I have seen the worm clamps work fine, but I don't like them on high pressure stuff.
also, that hose is only rated for 300F temps... the turbo oil can get over 350.

Actually the cooler prevents it from getting over 250*f, the same way the coolant thermostat prevents the engine from getting over 212*f if its maintained properly.
In any case, its a 5 minute job to change my hoses compared to having to lift the engine to change the stock hoses. And they're well clear of the power steering pulley too.

vstech 08-10-2011 07:16 PM

how long have you been using that hose? I'd like to know it's service life.
new lines certainly take more than 5 minutes to replace, but lifting the engine is not required. I think it took me 24 minutes to replace my hoses, and I had a problem figuring out which was upper and lower... I did remove my a/c bracket.

June 2009, so 2 years and 15k miles of hard driving. The hoses are still pliable without any cracking or leaks.

I have a similar installation to FI's but used Goodyear Slip Fit hose. I did that in Nov,2007.
The only issue I have had is I had an Oil seep that got the Hose end wet (but no dripping around) one of the connections. I tighten up on the clamps and no more issue. That was about 1-1/2 years ago.
It could be that the Parker Hose is a better choice because the GoodYear Hose is very inelastic.
No deterioration of the Hoses noted (the Hoses look the same as when I put them on).
I have more than 15K since I did mine.

My bottom hose was the one that failed. It wasn't leaking but the fitting spun freely in the hose. I figured it would eventually leak...

The inner barrier is pretty stiff on the new hose. Not very "rubbery".

I assume the flow through the cooler is top to bottom?
