Mercedes 300 tdt engine

I have a 1987 mercedes 300 tdt wagon. The engine has 349,000 on it. The car does not have full power, and dumps oil like i have never seen. I have little experience with these engines. I am going to try and replace seals until the oil is not leaking so bad. The car does run and tested excellent on compression. Anyone know if my engine might still have some life left in it. Also, any tips on where to find used 6 cylinder engines? thanks, Mez

Lots of used engines under the hoods of used cars Depending on where you are in the U.S., if you are in the U.S., there are used engines to be found. The folks on this forum know where many of them are. They seem to collect in Texas so hopefully that's where you are.

Clean the engine and look for the source of the leak. Typical leak sources include:

- front crank seal
- head gasket near timing chain tensioner
- head gasket near transmission dipstick
- injection pump where it attaches to the block
- turbo

Lack of power could be a poor boost signal to the injection pump. There is a plastic line or hose from the top of the injection pump to a small black box near the windshield washer fluid reservoir continuing to the intake manifold. Make sure air can flow freely through that line. Also clean the fitting the on the intake manifold. The fitting takes a 12mm wrench and breaks easily so don't overtighten. I suspect I'm not the only one who knows who fragile that fitting is.

if it's plugged yes. Check your TUrbo for Axial play. will tell you if it's worn which would cause lower power too. Currently my power situation is a non functional turbo (Slow slow slow)
