'99 300 Front Suspension Noises
When turning steering near lock, left or right, same thing. Hearing dull heavy noise. Replaced lower ball joints, sway bar bushings & sway bar links. Noise remains.
Next step tie rod ends. Any suggestions. |
nice i.d.! i just replaced tie rod ends, lower ball joints, sway bar links and springs on my '98 300. i had a weird clunk AFTER. found that the new german "pex" sway bar links had failed after 100 miles. i disconnected the sway bar links and the noise was gone. i've learned my lesson about non o.e. parts. at 160,00 miles the original components had nearly zero wear, i just wanted the piece of mind having new components. i'm sure you know to "shake" the wheel at different axis to isolate tie rods, ball joints and wheel bearing load. the control arm bushings on this chassis is a weak link. not much to the 210 suspension.

CitationTech,
The lower ball joints were dealer, but the bushings & links are Fastlane. To your point, not much evidence of wear, but I as well wanted new components after 256K. I did not include that I am hearing a thud when braking. I have not had the time to replace the tie rod ends, but am thinking & agreeing that it would be more like the upper control arm bushings. "i'm sure you know to "shake" the wheel at different axis to isolate tie rods, ball joints and wheel bearing load" I do not know how to implement this method ?? Need a little help here. Are you based at KSBY or KEVY? |
