Couple of W126 Questions - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I just bought a W126 and the seat bottoms are a bit weak. Its a relatively low miled car, but its classic mercedes in that you sit in the drivers seat and you're damn near on the floor.

Do seat boosters like the ones for the W124 exist for the W126?

Also, people use the Meltonian shoe cream dye to freshen up leather on blue and red interiored cars. Does anyone know which color dye to use on a Cream interiored car? All my dads old salesman friends call it "Cream-Beige" but I am unsure of the factory name.

Also, the AC doesn't work, the car is a 1991, does it use R134a or R12? It wasn't required until 1993, but I knew Mercedes switched earlier in some cases.

And finally, how do you remove the plastic trim on the bottom halves of the doors? One of mine is scuffed and a friend has a parts car with a good one, and I'd rather replace then repair.

And yes, its a 350SDL.

As far as if its R-12 or R-134....look at the service ports. By law they require different types of connectors. If it looks identical to the valve stem on your tires....its R-12.

When I pick the car up I'll post pictures. I'll look into leatherique, their site isn't all that intuitive.

Don't be shy to contact them. The owner was an occasional contributor to one of the old Mercedes lists (though he may no longer be actively involved in the biz, this was some time ago) and they are very knowledgeable about Mercedes leather colour codes, all the way back to the Gullwing era.

I would not recommend going with the stuff sold on eBay that claims to be as effective. Not worth any savings that may be offered.

Get some plastic wedges like what you would use to install a household door frame. At the opening side of the front door, pull back the door seal to reveal a nut at the top of the trim. Remove the nut and use the wedges to pop the trim off toward the front to the first attachment point. The front attachment point is a metal tab, do not attempt to disconnect it yet. Now pop the bottom off just like the top. Then slide the trim towards the back to release the little metal tab at the front. You may need to replace some of the plastic parts that hold it in place, but these are available from the dealer pretty cheap.

The other trim pieces come off in a similar fashion. The doors all have one nut holding them in that has to be removed first, the fender/quarter panel trims just pop off.

leatherique is the best, my leather is still supple thanks o them and they have the correct dyes to redye your seat while keeping the leather supple.Sem has dydes too -good luck!
