Merchant's Tire and Auto did a perfectly good job of aligning my 300SD a while back. I'm done with dealers unless I have an emergency that I can't get out of any other way. Even IF I could afford the labor rate, a past experience in which I paid over $100 just to get air cleaner mounts and windshield washer squirters for my 240D, and that was just at the parts counter --- has convinced me that I'd rather be mugged than pay a dealer.

I always figured that, from the dealer's perspective, every time I drove out of there in my old car it was a lost sale.

When did this new 240D come about? Also don't see the 300TD in your signature anymore.

Dealerships here in Florida really like to over charge for parts. When I need dealer only parts I call a dealership in Cali!

My local MB dealer just called asking if my 1980 Mercedes needs service scheduled to stay running like the factory intended. It's the same dealer that charged $160 for an alignment they had to re-do 3 times and gouged my car's rocker panel during a state safety. I declined...

When I was there for one alignment, they had given one customer another customer's car by accident, both silver S-classes. When I was there for the safety, three cars were stolen because the service advisers left keys on their tables.

It was interesting that my service adviser had sold my dad his first new car, a 1981 Mazda GLC.
