84 300td wagon patch panels.

Anyone one know were patch panels can be located? I have rust through on the lower driver's side rear quarter panel right underneath the bumper. And I also have a nice hole in from of the rear passenger side wheel under the door. Anyone have some info besides junkyrad shopping? I am in NC.

You could try the dealer. Mercedes does show some patch-panel sections in their catalogues, but the selection is by no means complete (as I recently discovered).

And the parts manager at my dealer told me that Mercedes raised prices on body metal parts stock for older cars by between 70-100 percent about 6-8 months ago -- I guess to bring the pricing into line with the newer vehicles.

Here in Canada, a w123 fender was $380 at the dealer last summer. Now listing at $750.

I am not 100 pct sure I follow from your description where you want to patch, but for a daily driver you can probably fashion patches from thin gauge metal for areas like that.

Remember, however, to be assured the rot doesn't return you need to be planning to trim back a minimum of 1.5 inches from any rusted and/or soft metal. Two to three inches is ideal, actually, but not always easily accomplished.

I suggest you have a look at posts by Chad300tdt. If it's a rust repair on a w123 wagon, then he's probably done it to his beautiful '85... and he has some great time-saving and short-cut tips, if you're so inclined.

Good luck with the work.

Also, if the rust is huge, any good body shop should be able to cut out the rust and fab a new patch just where they cut.

And thats cheaper than the Benz dealer by a long shot. You rarely need an entire panel.

I live in NC and am presently parting out a 1985 300TD. Later this fall I am planning to sell what is left of the car for scrap. If you send me pictures of the areas you need, we might be able to work something out.
Thanks,

Shane

FYI - If you enter a 1981 300TD Sherman Parts will give you a price for front fenders which don't show up if you enter "123 series" and the parts that show up for 123 series don't show up for a 300TD.

I don't see any front fenders. Only rear fenders (obsolete term nowadays, most people just refer to them as rear quarters).

I'm impressed that they have the floor pans, however. Even more so by the price.
