Purpose?

Never changed mine before. So I've ordered the two seals. Can't blink at a $10 service item in all reality.

But what do they do exactly (or less than) other than seal. I've read that these help with oil pressure / flow to the rocker / cam assembly. True or false?

Thanks

They are supposed to keep oil flow to the top of the engine.

ok, contrary to EVERYTHING you will read elsewhere, there are two different sizes on the oil filter shaft.
the lower slot is 6mm ID by 10mm od 2mm wall and the Upper groove is 7mm id by 11 mm od 2mm wall. IF you use the 6/10 for both grooves, the upper ring will fail rapidly, and not seal properly as it's stretched too much.

this is my story and I"m sticking to it.

oh, and all they do as far as I can tell is route the bypass oil through the bypass section of the filter, and hold the oil in the can when the motor is shut off.
this will keep low oil pressure startups to a minimum, and help your oil pressure gauge give a more accurate reading.

I went to the dealer today to price a waterpump for my friend's 300E. Only $520 for the part, but the reman is a steal at just $260.
