84 300SD A/C vent Defrost HOT same time

I have a friend with a 84 300SD that blows cold A/C through the vents but also runs the defrost at the same time.
Just a note the defrost is HOT and in Florida at this time of year that is not a good thing.
Any ideas?

Why would you need to use Defrost in Florida in the summer?

Considering that Defrost is intended to melt frost/ice, why wouldn't it be hot?

Don't press the Defrost button until there's frost on the windshield.

I believe a leaking monovalve would cause such a problem. In A/C mode, check for power at the monovalve and check for a good ground as well. It may have a failure, internally, and be bypassing coolant to the heater core.

Is the air coming from the defrost blowing full blast air or just slightly? If it seems to be full blast, the vacuum pod for the diverter flap may be leaking. The pod for this is located behind the instrument cluster.

By design, the monovalve opens fully when Defrost is selected.

The Bi-Level mode works well for me.

Defrost just fogs up the windshield a lot worse, initially. Defrost can actually be quite hazardous if turned on while driving.
