When were you at Indiana? I was there '74-78 (BS in Biology)!

Circut Overload Protection?

Just checking out interesting threads like this and the question that comes to my mind is ; wouldn't a series connected appropriate size fuse be a good addition and investment when effecting the eventual repair of this seemingly common failure, how about preventative procedure for any vehicle with an auxillary pump. Seems like a couple of dollers and minutes could save alot more in the long run by preventing a burning up the PCB and/or the associated electronic components during a pump lock-up. One could just solder splice and heat shrink a waterproof fuse holder in no time. Just a thought, luckily I don't suffer from aux. pump syndrome, but if I did! Good luck.

Peter...........

I was there from 1977 to 1979 getting my MBA. Sounds like you might have stepped over me, "resting " on the floor, at Nick's English Hut or THE HOP, or Bears, or our favorite, the Peanut Barrel a couple of times.

Where did you live. I lived in that wacko graduate dorm, Eigenmann Hall, on 10th street.

I also used to travel to Evansville on occasion while selling for Dow Chemical. Stayed in the Executive Inn and called on Mead Johnson and GE in Mount Vernon.

Billybob, good advice, I might take that approach when/if I get the new PBC.

In 1977 I lived on 10th and Dunn in an apartment. Previous year at GRC, upperclass hall. Smoked my first (and last!) Russian cigarette at a party in Eigenman about that time. Tasted (and smelled) like burning horse maure.

Nick's is still there, as is Bears (my favorite!). the Von Lee, alas, is closed -- how the h... can a movie theater half a block from IU go under?

The Commons in the Union is now a McDonalds (gag), with nasty new furniture (what was wrong with the old stuff?)

The education building has been remodeled, as has Chemistry, and there is a new building behing Teter Quad.

The Runcible Spoon is still there, and I think I recognize some of the stains on the floor.

Bloomingfoods (my old coop grocery) is still downtown, but they also have a large store in College Mall, which is now huge.

Everyone now has a car (big change), sometimes two! Parking is pure hell, unlike in the old days.

Else all is the same, except that the trees are somewhat larger than they were 25 years ago (gasp, am I past 40!!!!!?????)

I'm currently working as a contract chemist in the wastewater treatment plant at GE Mt. Vernon!

Small world!

As I've said before, I don't understand the lack of some current limiting device, a fuse or circuit breaker would be cheap, in MB electronic controls. The CC amp has the same problems as the climate control, and these are NOT cheap, chintzy, save a nickel cars!

Small World....for sure

I forgot about Bloomingfoods. However, Big Red Liquors is a clear memory. I makes you look in the mirror when you return to Big Red Liquors 2 years after graduation and the guys at the register say......"Jim....How've you been"

I used to eat at a hippie food place called the Tao. That was when I was in my yogurt/tofu marathon running stage. Is it still there?

I used to try to sell stuff to GE, to no avail, but then I competed with that site while selling Phenol/Acetone......do they still make that stuff there.

Take care and Go Big Red

JCD:

When I was working in the Phenol plant last year the guy I was sharing an office with calculated that GE made about a billion pounds of phenol and acetone the previous year. For those who don't know, this is a BIG HOG outfit -- one of the largest chemical plant operations in the world. They move an incredible amount of material through.

I wouldn't bother to sell acetone or phenol there, though -- the head of shipping was desperately searching for someplace to put the excess last spring!

The Tao was still in Bloominton about ten years ago, but I don't know for sure now, didn't look in 2000 when I was in town for the day. I was a pretty much a non-drinker in those days, but I do remember Big Red Liquors!

If I remember right.....

GE is a net consumer of Phenol and does not sell it on the open market. However, they do move a gazillion pounds of the byproduct Acetone.

When I was selling Acetone, between the GE Mount Vernon plant, the US Steel Plant in Ohio and another plant in Chicago, there was enough available acetone to fill the Atlantic. It made Indiana one of the most competative markets in the US.

You are right, there is something about walking around a chemical plant that makes in excess of 1 billion pounds of stuff a year. They are pretty cool.

There is one rule however,,,,,,never smoke or step in a puddle.

Unhappy Fried Unit?

If the CCU is fried, from bad Aux Water Pump, would a symptom be decreased voltage to #3 switchover valve? That's my problem.

How long would it take for a bad pump to overhead the CCU?

If you do a google search for "General Development
Laboratories"
They are at 3041 Sandalwood Ave, Morro Bay,Ca.
805-772-5127
They do have a web page and there are some articles there about Mercedes Climate and cruise controle rebuilds.
Check them for info and compare their prices. To others. I have never done busines with them. Just found them on the web. Good luck.
