Need precombustion chamber seals...
Howdy All,
Someday, when I can get the time to put my engine back together, I will need some prechamber seals... My OM603 from my 1987 300D did not have seals under the prechambers when I took it apart. I repaired the head and milled the surface and the prechamber protrusion is still within limits IAW the factory repair manual. I would like to install seals under the prechambers just to make sure the protrusion will not be an issue and to ensure a good seal. I have not been able to find a source of these parts in the usual parts houses. I have all new parts for the head and I sure would like to finish this project... Anyone know of anywhere I can find these parts online? The dealers I have asked laugh at me and suggest putting it back together the way I found it... Nope. Sorry... Any ideas? Thanks! :D |
OM601-2-3 engines do not use seals, so none are available anywhere. Put it back together the way you found it.

I should have said spacers...
What I really meant to say was: I need spacers to bring the prechambers back to original specifications for protrusion. The manual explains how to measure and install them.
I can't find the part numbers, but I need at least 0.5mm of space in order to feel comfortable with the piston clearance... Thanks all, Kevin |
I think you are letting your paranoia take over the situation. If the depth is within limits as per the FSM then that is where it should be.
Don't forget if you raise the pre-chamber higher and higher you will be changing the unswept volume (albeit by a small amount). |
When you check the protrusion are you doing so with the Prechamber retaining Collars/Rings torqued down fully?

If its within clearance specs then don't fix whats not broken.
