When performance enhancement is the goal its better to change it preventively, or start with an OM606. For the daily driver, a 14 is totally fine.

Please don't shoot me... forgive my ignorance.

But can a 606 head be put on a 603?

603 pistons aren't notched for 4 valves. Probably other more prohibitive differences.

But the 606 will run with a 603 IP, right? So that would take alot of the electrical equation out of running a 606 in another body?

Wow, I should be arrested for being a hijacker

It will take a lot of the power potential out of it, too. The question is - how much more power will a 606 make over a 603 with a 603 IP? You might be bucks ahead getting a Myna pump and bigger turbo for a 603. I was told mating the aft end of a 603 IP with the forward end of a 606 IP isn't a plug-n-play deal. But there's an entire forum dedicated to such missives.

Intercooler plumbing can be a nightmare in the tight quarters of a 124.

Very little. Mostly from less pumping losses, but driving the second cam would likely eat up that.

The same effort and money in a 606 can return significantly more.

1) I mean there's top end power loss running a 606 turbo with a 603.96 IP vs its native IP.

2) True, but the cost of the 606 is a cost hurdle in itself if you already have a 603.

The cost of a 606 is the god awful looking chassis it came in.

Good thing it bolts in everywhere a 603 does.

Supply+demand.
I could probably buy several hundred dozen low miles used/running 617 for for what it would cost to buy a C111-III.

That was the head that came with my crate engine

And also cracked due to a hydralock-within warranty thankfully. But why use the 606 head gasket?

Diff material and design. They match up with the exception of one oil passage that needs drilling.

My 617 needs a head as well, the replacement engine I bought was already eating a valve when I put it in. Luckily the 617 heads are a dime a dozen.
