@Army

I snapped a couple more pictures of the axels, but only the last one has the differential in it. Whoops =\

I called a shop nearby and he said there are two types of axels for the car as well and from reading the dimensions on the part description, the only thing different he see (at least right now) is that one is 2" longer than the other and we'd have to take the axels off just to measure them.

I'm still trying to figure out which type of axels I've got, so if you guys can give me any pointers that would be much appreciated.

10 out of 10 for effort.

Unfortunately I couldn't see the bit I wanted to.

Does the side of you differential look like this?

I'm guessing the rest of the back end looks like this

The type axles you have are the Homokenetic. the one piece type.
I looked up your 82 240D and my 85 300D in the Buy Parts Tab above, and they both take the same axles. I do not see any mention of some being 2" longer. maybe the guy was looking up W126 axles? I know they are a little longer.
