Look What I Bought Today

I don't know if it's junk but some of the stuff I needed so I bought it all. A complete 240 engine, a 617 out of a 300 sd that had oil loss problems and it got a new head. We opened it today and it had gotten water in it :(. The head looked like it had 1000 miles on it because the valves looked new. As far as the block who knows. There were lots of good parts and tools too! The 240 may be my turbo project engine if it runs. Some of the stuff I have no Idea what it's for. There were 5 injector nozzels that looked very clean but used. I don't know if those are still good.

Al in all it may, be scrap but the tools were almost worth what I paid for the whole deal. I think there is a 300d non turbo factory rebuilt(complete) and a 200 d still there that I may go back for. He has a bunch of early cars too. Should I go back for the other diesel engines or are they just scrap too?

Ok I just found out the 300 non turbo has a working auto trans attached to it and the engine was a factory rebuild complete with all the accessories still on it. They came out of a wrecked car that was running good. The 200 goes with a round body PonPon he has and its for sale. He has about 15 cars left and some are pretty rare. I think this week I will be helping him post some in the classified section on this site.

Do you mean a W120 Ponton or one of these beasts from Star Wars?

Did I type PonPon? I meant PomPom not knowing what that goofy looking car was. What does PonTon mean anyway? The one car they name with a name and it's PonTon? Come to think of it do the Germans use anything other than numbers and manufacture's to name anything? It's always a number or manufacturer such as Messershmidt 109, Mercedes 300sd, and the one time they step out they use PonTon! Germans!

Ponton is German for pontoon which is a characterization of the rounded styling. It wasn't a marketing name. Finnies are called Heckflosse after the MB designer but that's not a marketing name either. Rod bender, now that should have been a marketing name.

Check those mating surfaces on the head and block. The picture of the head looks a bit shady to me - but it is a picture and who knows how flat it really is without a surface plate?

We checked the gasket as the head was removed and it was well sealed all the way around. The valves had a bronze look to them and we will be pulling it all down to look for the oil consumption issue. The head was in really nice condition and did look like it ran 1000 miles except for the water. Thanks!
