190D 2.5 value?

my buddy has spotted a car that's available, it's a 190D that's owned by an elderly woman in his condo. it sounds like a classic case of a granny car that she bought new, has taken to MB for service ever since, driven it to the grocery store once a week since it was new. always parked in the underground, and basically a pampered car, so a possible good buy. i haven't seen the car yet but it's mint according to my buddy and she asked him recently if he knew anyone who might want to buy it. so on the surface of it it looks to have potential as a good car.

i don't know the year except it's a 2.5 so that means it's a later model. don't know yet if it's an '87 with the turbo, i've asked him to look for the grilles that are on an '87 Turbo.

what's the value like on a 190D? in toronto all '80's MB's are very soft value right now except maybe diesels, and i'd say all models are soft value overall. anything with a gas engine people can't give them away basically. but the 190D seems a bit rare, is this true? i always think of ebay as a good market value indicator for window shopping and there are no 190D's for sale at the moment, to me this means it's a rare car. i found one completed ebay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-Mercedes-190D-40mpg-/160636435237?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2566ad7b25#v4-38

this seems like pretty strong money compared to what a gas model would sell for all else being equal.

anyhow, thanks for the input. if i was to buy the car i have to come up with an offer price and while i may or may not try to sell the car, the offer price to me would be based largely on what it would sell for if i decided to sell it.

An 87 190D with 2.5 would be a good buy IMO. Mileage and history are all what its about though.

Would've gone over far better as a plain google link.

190d Value

If it is a rust free vehicle unlike most eastern vehicles then a 190d could be in the $2500 range I just got $3200 for a garaged 190d Na with a 5 speed and 300K. If it is a 190d Turbo then it is definitley worth more and a much nicer car to drive but it is hard to say how much more. Mileage and condition are everything but old cars are a very soft value right now. Non turbo 190d's will have worn valve stem seals , the turboed models do not seem to suffer this problem. 84 190 2.2's with with the 5 speed are fairly cheap but gutless. The automatics in any year are expensive to fix so make sure it is Ok or better yet rebuilt. This is probably the weak point in the vehicle. Good luck Dan
