Napa brand floor jacks

I know this isn't directly diesel related. But it will lift my diesel off the floor.
Have any of you used Napa brand floor jacks? It's time for a real floor jack not my little sample one. I've got a Craftsman jack but it sucks and all the reviews about Craftsman jack say they work great for a little while then start leaking, which is what's happened to mine. Any suggestions?

You kinda get what you pay for in a jack. Except for a free one I got from my brother, who got it from a friend who was moving, who didn't want to move it because of the weight. It's an old 2 or maybe 2 1/2 ton British-made jack, built like an anvil. Slow to pump up... Parts fall off occasionally but everything is threaded, so put 'em back on. Can't kill it, won't die. Never touched the cylinder or oiled it.

I also have a no-name 3 ton jack bought from Princess Auto (a Canadian version of Harbor Freight). We'll see about this one. It's very beefy and I like the twist handle to release pressure.

I've had a Norco jack for several years, and it is excellent for the price. It's not lightweight, though! http://bit.ly/ndvkEP

Or, you can get an American made jack for another $100: http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/2-Ton-Service-Jack-Made-in-the-USA-P15106.aspx

Note the weight in the Hein Werner catalog listing -- 90 lbs. I'd guess the Norco is about the same.

I bought a large floor jack from Costco ($98 or $89 I forget).

They have two models by the same maker.
Black and red. The red one is a bit nicer with rubber pad and same price.
Works nicely, controllable but not lightweight aluminum which is no problem by me !

Lifts my 300D, Cadillac, 300SE etc...

My dad's got a NAPA jack and it's probably the best one we've got. Especially like that it has a rubberized "pad" on top of the plate that makes contact with the car. It reduces the number of times I have to find a block of wood to protect whatever I'm jacking up.

I have one from harbor freight that was around $80. It's big, heavy and sturdy. I am very happy with it. It has enough weight to it that I can easily push it around in my alley with dirt/gravel.

Napa jacks are actually not too bad. It's not something you'd see in a professional shop but I would definitely say they are much better than those from harbor freight. I don't have any affiliation with napa anymore (other than getting discounts whenever I visit my old store) but stand by their products faithfully, which should say something.

A cheap Napa jack is as good as any other cheap jack. Their beefier ones are solid. I've had one of the 2.5 ton units for years. I wish it had a one-piece handle, but it doesn't. Got it on sale for about $250.

One of the ways to reduce the leakage on an old Jack is to fill it with Differential Oil (that is much thicker than the Oil that the Jacks come with).
I did this with my Fathers Old floor Jack and it worked.

If the Fill Hole is a small one you would have to buy one of those Plastic Meat Syringes for injecting flavors into meat. I bought one when the local 99 cent store was selling them.

I sucked it up several years ago and bought an AC jack. Have not regretted it at all. High priced but a lifetime acquisition.

$400 for a nice, well built jack is decent. I spend $250 for my craftsman.

However, their jack stands have what look like crappy welds to me.

I have 2 of the Costco 3 1/2 to jacks. paid $98 for the first one then a couple months later got the 2nd one for $94. No sales tax in Oregon.
Nice thing about these jacks, is that they are a low profile, and a little longer.

I have a 2 ton one I bought back in 82, made in Japan, been a good jack, and has been through eveything.

The Harbor Fright jack, think it is a 2 1/2 ton, leaks, and hasn`t been used all that much.

I was thinking of picking up another Costco 3 1/2 ton jack. but our Costco here in Santa Cruz doesn`t show them in their inventory. so I guess it is another trip back to Portland.

I noticed while at sears that all the Craftsman jack only 1 year warranties, which is another reason I was shying away from them. All the rest of their tool are lifetime warranty.

Charlie, looks like Costco doesn't carry any floor jacks anymore.
