altitude and performance

Talking with someone the other day and he asked if altitude affects the performance of our old diesels. I said I didn't think it affected mine, but then started thinking that maybe it had. I seem to remember some loss of power and other symptoms at 7500ft. elevation but maybe I'm not remembering so well. Any thoughts?

power is significantly reduced with altitude on non turbo diesels.

power is slightly affected with turbo diesels.

almost all combustion engines require atmospheric pressure to run, and higher elevation reduces atmospheric pressure.
the amount of power loss is relative to many factors.

Big differences between turbo and non-turbo at altitude. I live at 5000 ft and have driven both kinds to 10k ft. Wouldn't own a non-turbo at altitude.

Already discussed at length very recently.
