93 300D window switch went bad ?
the windows decided to quit ! only open and close from the outside ( When I hold the key in the door for a couple of seconds
Can it be the entire mid console switch crapped out ! or is there something else I should look into replacing ? |
This is too obvious but did you check the window lock switch between the LF and LR switches?

Easy repair
This is an easy repair.
It's probably your window switches. They get dirt and stuff in them over time. Buy a few new ones, they're pretty cheap, $10 or so from memory. Take out your center junk-holder compartment between the seats. There are 2 screws at the bottom front of it, that are angled forward to screw into the wood shifter console panel. Once those are out, lift out your junk holder, then take out a few screws on the rear of the wooden console panel, and lift it out. Your switches lift straight up. Pull the bad ones out, replace with new ones. Reassemble, you're done. |
They are designed to be easily dissembled and cleaned. Takes some skill but nothing exceptional. Clean with a contact solvent. Some highly volatile, non-residue solvent. Have a bowl underneath the switch when you take it apart.

CAUTION,DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
MANY,Many Tiny,Tiny Ball Bearings and Springs Reside in the Switches.
Do Not Let Any Escape! Take Pictures once the cover of the switch is off for re-assembly aid. |
its odd all 4 got dirty at once ? they worked today no problem I am thinking its something more than just some dirt !

I'm not familiar with the design or key-close feature, but maybe a relay? Find a wiring diagram, chase the differences. If all the switches go out and come back together, then it's probably not the switches. Maybe an iffy fuse, or a something in the ignition circuit (e.g. switches don't know the car is on), or a balky relay that gets tripped by the door lock. |
It was related to a tail light bulb out, once I replaced it windows work fine since
|
I KNOW I'm gonna hate myself for asking...
[WHOA!]
Which "Tail Light Bulb"? In which position in the holders? I can find NO interconnect in the Wiring Diagrams between the Window Lift Motor System and the Rear Lights. I Un-Plug BOTH 6 pin Tail Light/Brake Light/Reverse Light/Marker Light assemblies AND the Window Lifts still work as Normal. Do you have Either: Non Factory Installed Alarm/Remote Unlock/Remote Start OR: Non Factory Stereo Installation? ['Cause THOSE Clowns (Non Factory) will Destroy a Wiring harness!] |
I actually fixed the tail lights by soldering the strip that goes across to the bulb base on both sides
before I had such hard time keeping bulbs from burning and properly working on the tail lights now its all working like it should + previous owner had all wrong bulbs in there so they used to move I guess and turn off when ever they decide |
