83 240D - help ID cable plug under dash

Hello,

I was working on my 240d this afternoon when I found a loose cable tucked under the glove box area. Could anyone help me identify what exactly it is?

The cable leads to the center console. It seems to come from the rear of the radio/climate control area. I have an aftermarket radio.

Does anyone recognize it? It has a good size plug. I didn't see anything obvious its supposed to be connected to. My first thought was it was related to the factory radio or an amplifier, but I am not so sure.

I am sorry about the quality of the photos, I hope they are good enough to identify the cable.

Thanks very much for any help!

Looks like an antenna jack. Some of these cars had a phone installed.

I have seen the same cable end on other 240D in the JY`s in the same location.
looks like it is for a CB radio. could have been wired from the factory for the old Cell Phones of the day. back then, they were big as a ladys purse.

the cars that I have seen this on, I have never seen where an antenna for a radio was mounted unless they used the car radio antenna.
Next car I see this on, I`ll trace it to see where it goes. when I have noticed it is when Iam pulling the dash, and the cable is tucked in with the wire bundle through the factory Zip ties. goes into the center consol area then disapears.

Old school car phone. Look for the other end in the trunk, maybe near the radio antenna.

I think these even pre-dated the the through-the-glass style, so it's probably not in the passenger compartment.
