benefits of an M vs MW pump?

I have an '82 300sd, om617.951 with the usual MW pump. I may be able to get an M pump from another forum member. What are the advantages of the M vs MW? Is it worth changing the pump with no other upgrades?

I have had cars with both pumps for the last 10 years and I see nothing that would induce me to go to all that work of changing IPs. The delivery valve seals of the MW are easier to do. If you want a pump to modify so you can go faster the M pump can be send to Finland. Big bucks, tho.

There is no benefit to replacing an MW pump with an stock M pump. The reason people like them is because you can mod the M pump and get a whole lot more power. The MW pumps can't be modified the way the M pumps can. Don't bother switching unless you plan on modifying the pump.

And that modification with the current exchange rate....is VERY expensive. Shipping is an arm and a leg too.

how do you tell the difference between the two?

Sorry, I've only recently been thinking about getting more power from a 617.

If I do in fact put a OM617 in a Jeep Cherokee, I would want 200hp. Will a MW pump do that?

All my performance reading has been on 603's.

It would cost somewhere between 2 and 3 thousand dollars with the current exchange rate to have an M pump modified and shipped both ways. (maybe even more). 200HP would need that among a LOT of other things.. bigger turbo, inter-cooler etc....and you are going to lose low end drivability (slower spool time) to gain high end power. Not sure that's what you want to trade off in a Jeep where bottom end torque means more that top end power.

Easy identification....look where the plates that lock each element in place on top where the fuel lines attach to the delivery valves. MW has two nuts on each and each valve has its own plate. The M runs diagonal and the plates share a nut. But in all honesty there are MANY other differences...they share nothing in common to my knowledge with each other.

of course, that's a pic of the engine side of the pump... useless unless you have the pump in your hand.

Maybe I should be thinking about putting a 603 in a Jeep instead of the 617. Problem is the 603's tend to come with cars attached. 617's can be had all day long. A $100 606 would be nice to find

I don't even have to go look.. I gotta MW.
