i made it out to John's place today. it was nice to finally meet him, and i also met his brother (Jason?) and his brother's daughter (Ivy?). my friend Bryan (BRM here on the forums) showed up with his son Duncan later in the morning. at the end of the day, Duncan wound up buying a non-MB vehicle from John.
i was able to scrounge a few small items i wanted to stock up on (hose clamps), and i was also able to get a few other parts that are missing from, or much nicer than the ones currently on my car. it was nice to come back home and install an original gas cap on my car and to get rid of that aftermarket cap that was on there. i will be installing the other parts in the next few days after i spend some time cleaning them up.
we spent most of the morning and early afternoon stripping out an '80 TD wagon and a 300D sedan. in many ways it was rather depressing to part out the wagon because it was pretty complete and i did not feel it was incredibly rusty. on the other hand, it was a good learning experience taking all that stuff apart. i did not spend much time on the sedan, as i wanted to familiarize myself with the workings of the wagon. the sedan looked pretty well taken apart later in the day.
there were many cars that we did not even get to. definitely too many cars for a few people to spend a few hours stripping out and making any kind of significant dent.
there was mention of someone coming down from CT to do an engine transfer into one of the 300D sedans, and i hope that works out, because that car looked pretty decent except for some minor rear corner damage.
i hope that John can save more of the stuff that is still there. it was kinda sad knowing that there are so many good parts that will probably end up going to the scrapper just because of an upset neighbor. so if there is anything you think you may need from John's parts stash, NOW is the time to get it.
John, i hope your appointment with the inspector goes well and you can work something out.

WOW,
thanks Jon! Great synopsis of our day.
yeah, Jason and Ivy helped quite a bit, even though they are both getting over a flu (which I am now getting...) we along with Bryan got the 78 sedan pretty much torn down. didn't bother with the fenders due to northern salt rust... but all the good stuff from the inside got stripped, we will be storing all the big stuff, and digging into the dash and engine bay tomorrow...
I've got the 90 300E pretty much stripped too. we loaded one of the trucks onto the hauler, and will attach the trailer and load the other one as well, then get them to my mom's for temp storage...
next will be loading up the 124's and taking them to a friends house for storage. then off to the dmv to register the euro and then take the chevies to the scrapper...

fun fun fun.

Cool

well, thanks again for the deal on the parts. i am REALLY excited about getting them cleaned up and installed on my car.
glad i was able to help get some parts taken off before you scrap the wagon.
sorry you are getting sick. it did not sound like Jason had a real pleasant last few days.
best of luck getting the rest of the stuff cleaned up, and don't forget to release the emergency brakes when loading the other cars.
i wish i had more time to help, but i just can't do it.

yeah.
let's discuss the deals I'm giving out here...
so far, I've given a complete set of manual window regulators with cranks for $25
a set of square euro lights, with a US wagon rear bumper, and bolts etc for $200
a 123 Front Grille minus the star, a ton of hose clamps and bolts, and a pair of nearly perfect headlight doors for $50... and a TON of work tearing apart two cars...

yeah... deals deals deals.

yeah... deals deals deals.
you left out a few things from the $50 pile:
original gas cap (the very first thing i did when i got home was put this on)
original oil filler cap (sweeeeeet!)
chrome/plastic 123 cowl grilles (pimp my ride?)
cowl drain boots/sleeves (can't wait to put these on, as mine are totally missing)
617 intake opening rubber seal (again, mine is totally missing)
nice 123 fuse block cover (way better than the one i already have)
left rear carpet piece (when it dries, i will clean it and put it in)

thanks again! doing the work was the easy part.
and i forgot to say thanks for lunch, it really hit the spot. thanks!

I would like to thank John for the manual window regulators and Ivy guiding me into the drive way. After driving about 25+ "extra" miles because I am easily lost, the customized service was awsome.

I am the proud owner of 4 manual window regulators. Well worth the 200+ mile drive !

I installed the front driver regulator on Sunday. After some cleaning up, oil, grease, et cet., it is smooth as silk.

This is the first time in about 2 years that my front driver's window goes up and down without any issues or problems. Thanks to John.

After some double checking of some other parts, I plan on being there next weekend. Hopefully I wont get lost again, and again, and again. LOL.

Mark,

Columbia, SC

Sorry . .. .

. . . that I didn't see the announcement earlier!!!! I still need Left front quarterpanel trim for my '83 300D. Only been able to find ones that are too long!!!! I have the clips for them. If you have something that would fit, what would it cost to mail down? Anyone from Florida up there that could pick it up for me?

Also, have you considered putting in for a "dismantler's permit"? That's what the city suggested to my cousin with a similar problem. Then he was able to collect the cars until he had enough to sell to the scrap-iron people!!!! Might be cheaper and would shut up the nosy neighbor!!!!

I'll look into the dismantler's permit... but my area is zoned residential... so I doubt it'll fly...
I have 123's can you explain better what trim you need?
