Mexican rebuilt servo:

It's clean but it appears that the gears may have been cleaned in a tumbler

Here's an old valve I've been messing with:

Both servos will lock up when the engine gets to operating temp. The valve is really just a push/pull affair with a nut mechanism that raises/lowers the valve
as the servo motor rotates. The aluminum servo doesn't leak but once it gets hot the valve is really hard to open and close.

I counted 22 revolutions of the gear that drives the water valve to get from open to close.

The plan is to put in a water valve that is either open or closed and have it open when the servo is in the 2 or three highest heat ranges.

Maybe come off the blower circuit?

Found this cool valve:

1990 Chevy Astro 2.5 litre...

It's a bypass valve like the servo valve but it's normally open. It does look like it would lend itself to proportional control because it has a little flapper.

Pulse width modulator?

I'll call it the MONOVALVE.

I'm going to send my servo off for a proper rebuild but figured I'd fool with this some more.

No technical input but I got a roar out of seeing the Goody's box on your workbench.

Unfortunately they don't sell that stuff here in Canada so you have to DIY on combining the elements.

I took el servo motoro apart and lubed everything with some high temp PTFE oil. It sounds better anyway.

I ran the motor back and forth a zillion times with 4 D-cells. No hiccups on the bench... I hope it works because it's a minor PITA to install.

That was such a pretty work around I don't think I would have bothered getting the actual servo fixed.... that manual control puts you into my type one ACC neighborhood... wires and levers.....

The valve works OK but even with it only half open it gets really hot in the cabin. It's just no good for Ga. when you may need only a little heat in the AM and none by afternoon.

I rigged up a 3 position "stop" for it that can be adjusted under the hood so I turn it on in the AM and close it in the afternoon.

Here's hoping my servo will work for a while...

Old Air Products sells a similar valve number 50-1555. It's sold thru a lot of hot rod suppliers as a heater control valve. It's a proportional valve electrically operated with a switch that controls it from fully closed to all the way open in small increments. I bought one for my Fuso truck for about $80.

How many turns of the knob from full open to full closed? I still have another car to get up to speed...

So far el servo is working. I warmed the engine up and cycled from hot to cold many, many times. No problems.

I then ran the engine for a good 30 minutes while cycling from hot to cold. Shut off the engine and the servo parked. Cycled it many, many times as the engine was cooling. No problems. It parked in the same place every time I switched the ignition off.

I re warmed the engine from cold and cycled some more. All looks well in servo land.

I'll take it on the road in the AM.

The AC system is working well for 70 F lo pressure 20/hi pressure 140 39 F vent temps.

It's ticking like a Timex with a lot of hours on it

If you don't have ACC I'd suggest you install it. Even if you have a Kia or something...
