installing injection pump to test compression
I have two 240d motors sitting in my garage. One of the motors just came out of a car but had zero compression in one of the cylinders.
I bought another engine but it doesn't have an injection pump, alternator, starter or a few other parts. I want to compression test the new motor before I put it in my 240d. The first thing I want to do is take the injection pump off the old motor and put it on the new motor. I need to know how the new motor and injection pump should be set up before I make the swap. I assume the new motor should be at TDC but what about the injection pump? Any ideas or links would be greatly appreciated. Thx Pete |

You can check the compression w/o installing the injection pump!
Injection pump can be installed later, if the compression is good. What year motor? Injection pump should be installed at 24deg BTDC compression stroke, and then drip timed.

mdoc,
I don't have oil in the new motor or the radiator attached. I was thinking about filling it with oil and then trying to compression test it. I would also attach the oil pressure line. It's been sitting for at least 6 months. Would you recommend attaching anything else before I test the compression? I was also thinking about pulling each injector and spraying a small amount wd40 into each hole to lubricate the cylinder wall. Any thoughts? Thanks for the previous reply. Pete |
