81 300td #8 fuse no power when running.

i have a 300td and its climate control doesn't work when running. it works when the key is turned to the last position but not started. when i looked at the fuse designation and it also shows some idle valve and was wondering if that's for cold starting. i looked at the box and it has a little burn mark on the paper above the fuse, but the fuse is fine. so i wanted get some other opinions before i replace the whole box. or if there are any relays that are associated with the 8th fuse or climate control. thanks

Are you saying fuse 8 has power on both sides in II with the engine not running, but when running it loses power?

The #8 may get replaced with an external fuse carrier due to the symptoms you describe of the burn mark. Do you have a match-box sized black box on your fender? If so, that takes the place of the #8.

The climate control can be complicated. If it works in position II, but without the engine on, then there is probably not a problem with the fusebox.

Thanks for the reply, by box on fender do you mean the one with the two relays on the drivers side or the one with 3 big cables on the passenger side. The burn mark was really small and it was just on the paper with the part number. I hooked up a cable with staight power to the powerside of the fuse and now climate control works when running. The compressor works so my a/c might even work.

w123 blower fuse?

Try some of the links in the above thread. Post 9 in the first link is the item I'm thinking of.

You may have a bad fuse or a bad connection. I wouldn't recommend running a high current motor un-fused. Clean the fuse and the tabs on either end. Maybe replace with a ceramic and copper fuse. The copper provides a better connection, the ceramic won't melt if the fuse gets hot.

i mean i hooked up straight power underneath the fuse box to the #8 fuse on the side that had power before. to the line that gives power. so its still fused. just instead of losing power when running it has power the whole time.
