Geeze it's worth it for just the cylinder head!

Fun fact: The blockoff plugs on VW oil filter flanges (which plug the spots where a pressure gauge could go) are the same thread as the brake line fittings and can be used to "block off" a failed line at the ABS unit.

Just gotta love these low milage claims. Twenty five K on the replacement engine during the last ten years.

winmutt 09-19-2011 11:14 AM

As long as its a factory replacement, who cares?

I'd love a 3.5L non rod bender. I just paid half that for a #22 head.

Theirs one in Houston ,craigslist has it ,needs work though ,non engine issue.$2000.

Mine had 57k put on it in the last 10 years. I guess that's a bit more reasonable

There's no way I would pull that engine from that car. It's doesn't look that bad. I would fix it and drive it. I have never driven a w140 of any sort, but I bet it's like living in a dream. Add the om603 into the mix and it's bliss.

I drove a 140 and found it to drive pretty much like a 126. That looks too possibly be a decent deal. Not for me though....to complex!

I'd have to say there is probably nothing more expensive than a cheap 140!;)

Until you look under the door trims, underneath at all the fluid lines, at ever nut a bolt on the suspension and all the other areas that rust likes to hide. You can see some rust peeking out around the license plate area. Based on that I would say the whole car is just about to turn to dust :(

You must have compared a tired 140 to a pristine 126 :)

Those things are an electrical nightmare! There is a significant leap from a 123 to a 124....but there is a HUGE leap into electronics from a 124 to a 140. The simplicity of these cars goes out the window on a 140.

ashedd 09-19-2011 07:06 PM

I'm not scared of the electrical "nightmare".. if I can fix a AH-64D then I think a vehicle that operates on only 2 axis should be a piece of cake.

The AH-64 has triple redundancy for each and every system and flies via a computer, you also can not fly it in the rain without it falling out of the sky. There was a replacement being developed that addressed these problems, but the govt killed it... your tax dollars at work.

I was always told that an S320 was still fairly simple... but since owning a 400E, I don't think I could pass up an S420.

That car can't be nearly as bad in the rust department as the thing I just sent to the scrapper. I bet someone could snag it for 1500ish. :D

I do not like the w140 interior at all!

compu_85 09-19-2011 09:38 PM

I don't like the shape of the dash or the seats, but the door cards are nice.

Maybe that's fairly simpler, as in simpler than an S600. My 93 SD had no options which is an odd way to describe a vehicle with that level of standard equipment. I never found the circuit that drained the battery overnight after using the remote to close the windows. I don't know enough multivariate math to sort the combinations of fuses that allow the draw. For example, there would be a draw with only fuses 2, 4 and 8 installed; also with fuses 3, 9 and 11 installed and a few other combinations. No draw with any single fuse installed. How the heck do you trace something like that?

S420 with second gear start isn't so hot. You need a 722.6 to really enjoy it.
