Transferring Seat Skins/Covers - W124
My drivers seat was normal wear, which is a fair amount. I found a W124 300D in a local junkyard with perfect seats. My seats are power, but the junkyard seats are manual. My question is how difficult would it be to transfer the OEM seat covers from one seat to another? Anyone done this? Do I need hogring pliers?

Removing seat cushion
I put a pdf of the FSM section on removing the seat cover up on benzworld dot org, as this site does not allow attaching reasonably sized pdf files:(
No hog ring pliers needed. The trick to start releasing the leather from the seat frame is to press either front corner edge of the seat down while reaching under the frame to "unhook" it, or pull it out of the channel it's wedged into. |
What about the seat back cover removal?

You won`t need Hog Ring pliers to remove the cover, but you will need some Dykes to cut the existing Hog Rings. there is a good dozen rings under the MB Tex that holds the white cloth to the foam pad. I think you will be standing on your head trying to cut them off.
It would be easier to remove the seat from the car. Electric seats can be a problem in the yard to remove if the seat is over the bolts. I use a 14.4 volt drill battery, an some cheap Harbor Frieght Digital $3 volt meter leads. cut off the ends, soldered on some connectors to fit the battery. this works good for window regulators and blower motors etc.... While you are in there working on the seat, and the springs are weak or broken, the passenger seat box frame will fit on the drivers side. just need to swap the rails. take pictures as you take it apart. What car in your sig line will take 124 seat covers?

But seriously, I will need some Palomino interior parts for it. Once I get the car here, I'll post a list of what it needs. Most of the mechanical work a friend is going to do for me while I work out of town. But I'm pretty excited to get into the more interior detail work and completing it over time. But hopefully, my friend can have it driveable in a few days. |
Thanks for the Signature reminder Sixto. I just removed the 1983 300TDT from the sig line. Just when I thought the pain was over from watching it leave this weekend...

Here's a picture of the car to give an idea of the exact shade of color...

I was just in Akron, Sandusky, Cincinnati, Findlay, and Toledo visiting my wife family for the week. If I had only known....

Your interior is too dark :( Mine is much lighter than that. |

Yeah, the difference in lighting in this picture of the front seats makes it look different, much lighter. That's why I need to get it here to make sure.
