i had it in the shop yesterday and they said my turbo is shot. the serp belt is noisy, i had a new one installed, but alot of the noise was clearly squealing from the exhaust side turbo. i havnt checked the exhaust side impeller but the intake side moved freely and didnt have any shaftplay. i'll check the exhaust side when i get the downpipe fixed.

I was pretty surprised to hear that the turbo was shot. The ECU is REALLY conservative at doling out boost and that turbo doesn't work too hard, despite being on the dainty side.

Not actually sure myself how the down pipe effects boost...

ya i dunno what to do. i'll just drive it around and see what it does.
-i have no codes but if im in boost for a long period of time then i get the 0243 code
-i can boost to 12-14psi but its not as snappy as it should be.
-when the tuebo is under boost the turbo squeals. i know its the turbo because i elimated all the other noises.

im just guessing that the turbo is on its way out.

Yeah, I destroyed the turbo on my truck and the compressor was literally rubbing into the housing. It screamed like a banshee!

Plugged cat... At least that's what my instant reaction was...

You can research it further with a few choice searches but it seems logical to me that you have an exhaust restriction at some point. I would think your fuel mileage is down the tubes as well.

From what I read, a new cat is around $600. Some guys just hollow them out but if you have a sniffer emission testing, this isn't an option. OBDII based emission testing as we have here will be none the wiser.

my my mpgs are a joke right now.
i'll give the hollow cat a try. i dont have to sniffer the car but it must appear stock and have all factory emmissions in place with no cel codes.

it was definately the cat. i tested it by running the shopvac in blow mode through the cat and almost nothing came out the tailpipe. then ran the drillbit through a few times and that made a huge difference when i tested it again with the shopvac. . i wasnt able to completely gut the cat because i didnt have the right bits to get in there. i gotta drive 400 miles today so i'll see how that did. the turbo still squeals though
