i have a hand full of hood stars, pm me your address. ill send u a nice one.
im going to sit on the decision of getting rid of my 240 for a few days. it may be male menopause. i am going through a divorce, lost my nice house, just bought a forclosure and fixing that up isnt easy. between working at a car shop and fixing everyone elses car, i never have time for mine. i think i hit a boiling point. im going to weigh the options after all it is a 35 year old car. but to end its life because im being irrational isnt right either. in the mean time, my brother was able to clean the spray gun *sigh of relief* and he is going to try to "work out" the dents. the good news he said is that metal has a memory. whatever that means. so ill keep posted.

You seem to have been driven by frustation and stress perhaps. Try relaxing more for a time. Many things in our lives can wait for a better day.
As you are aware flying off the handle really does nothing. Well other than the instantainious gratification perhaps that is too short lived to justify it in most cases. I just got through casually mentioning to the wife that it is unwise in my opinion for her to back out of our driveway for visability reasons. Her response was not too civilized. After she got through informing me she can see further up the road better than I can. The reality being it is almost impossible to see at all when backing out is where the discussion went. On occassion diplomacy fails. This felt to me like a lose/lose situation initially and I was not disapointed. Still it had to be mentioned. I have gotten tired of dealing with her accidents. She tends to have total write offs rather than fender benders. Next time she may not be insurable is my fear. This I did not mention as one can of worms at a time is enough. Generally she is very easy to get along with. Certain areas are of course otherwise. |

People really need to realize that owning a 20+ year old mercedes is more of a passion than anything. It irks me when people post a thread on how "Mercedes will give you many years reliable service", and two days later post another thread in the tech help section.

God knows i have been defeated and crying in the corner of the garage myself, who knows what would have happened if something of mine went bang and took out an expensive something of my brothers i was borrowing. these cars are no longer vehicles, they are nice hobbies, sometimes.

Whereas I used to own a 1985 Honda Civic that went on and on and on - and yes I did look after it as I do for all of my cars but that thing needed the least amount of attention ever. Judging by the satisfaction surveys in the US and the UK I'd go and buy a Honda if I really really needed to be somewhere every week / day. In the mean time I'm happy trying to get my W123 to be as reliable as my old Civic!

Psh, you don't need double backup cars....in 8+ years of owning/driving my 300SD, I think there's been 6 days I couldn't drive it, and 3 of those were because a preventative repair went bad, and required additional parts to be obtained. It hasn't been "down" in almost 2.5 years.....and has covered 35,000 miles in that time period. I wonder if my 420 will match this, based on its service history, I don't think it will. Just took an important step in NOT breaking down tonight by replacing the whole fuel package (filter, pumps, lines, etc) in back. Old ones were so loud you could hear it inside the car quite clearly....next up is steering components and alignment, then it should be pretty much good to go for a long while! (aside from some fluid changes)
