getting rid of my old diesels....

today i was in the final stages of repainting my 77 240d. its a good car, so i decided to do a good body job on it. well, in my final coat of base coat, my air line blew on my compressor, the big 3/4 galvanized one. it made schrapnel scratched the paint, and went everywhere. i ruined my 500dollar spray gun too. I was mad and took my frustration out on the car. i took a 10 pound sledge and hit every panel, and glass. so now i dont want to fix the car anymore.

has anyone gotten to this stage before? should i give up? i dont know if its a mid life crisis, but i think its time for a real car and not a 35 year old junkers.

well im done ranting, and ill probably part out my 77 240. if anyone needs anything let me know, obviously body and glass are bad. engine has 30k miles on it. mercedes of sarasota put a brand new motor in it in 2007. i have all papers. everything on the car worked flawless, cruise control. new brakes all around including calipers. redone seals in my tranny.

im either going to part out or sell my 73 220d as well.(id rather sell that one whole)

I tell my 9 year old son that he can only control 3 things and has full responsibility for those. 1) What he thinks. 2) How he feels. 3)What he does.

You controlled nothing of use. Don't sell the cars. Give them to someone who deserves them. Work on getting your act together.

Perhaps you should give them to a 9 year old to finish by age 16. A big, slow, safe diesel mbz would be good for a new driver - especially if he cared enough to learn and fix them, Include a set of tools.

I am sure someone will happily buy your engine from you.
I saw my father go ballistic on a vehicle once... unfortunately, so did my little brother... he was 2.5 at the time, and when he got to grandma's house, he mimicked my father on her freshly restored 62 thunderbird...
she was NOT amused...

actually, the motor would go well with my 84 240 5 speed car! now, if only someone from florida was driving up to get stuff from my strip party!!!

lkq the local salvage yard offered me 275 for the car. so its going there on monday, less the parts people from peachparts want.

How about some pictures?

Too bad we are so far apart, I would pick it up from you.

I never trashed my own car, but I did sell off all but one and bought a ford fiesta..

I still have one if I ever get the inclination to wrench on someting, and now I have a reliable car that gets 35+mpg, has working a/c, and heated seats. It starts on the first try also..

Mercedes is a nice car as long as it is not your primary means of transportation I really dont care what anybody says, they will never be as reliable as a new/ newer car

Sorry I don't agree with that (completely!)

Now if you'd said Honda - well there wouldn't be any further discussion from me.

Try driving a new French car - in my opinion they should really be stopped from producing that crap => total waste of time, energy, resources etc etc etc

Sorry to hear about the frustration.

Are you really going to give up?

If you are sure it isn't salvageable then I would most certainly take the time to strip it and perhaps win back some money for a new paint gun?

If we were closer I'd come and look at the under body sheet metal work I need for the work going on in this thread

dude... just wow is all I have to say

IVIuzzy 09-22-2011 04:01 PM

the body is real real rough now. the good thing is that it is all stripped.

im going to wait for my brother to come by and see how bad it really is. we do own a complete auto repair facility. including body shop. my brother is the body shop manager and im a mechanic there. so i know we have the tools to fix it. i think it is time to give up. but i wouldnt be posting here if it really was. right?

i think im going through a "mid-life crisis" 2 weeks ago i had an issue with my 220d where a prospective buyer almost destroyed the engine. and my 240 leaked tranny fluid all over my new 8000 dollar paver driveway.

the 240 was my daily driver just for an economical sense. my truck always has a trailer on it an my e550 is a gas hog.

i owe my brother a new snap on paint gun for the time being. maybe ill just buy a harbor freight one for at home use.

ill post pics when i feel like going outside again to take some

47dodge 09-22-2011 04:06 PM

Can you at least sit on it long enough for someone to get the engine? A new engine going to scrap is a real shame.

mid life crisis, look up male menopause, properly called andropause. I'm not kidding it is real.

Dont make any decisions while you are emotional. I did that and I regretted it.
