W115 Auto: Quick to upshift and no passing gear. Worn bushing? Where?

Just had a new timing chain and tensioner rolled in at an independent. While he was at it, he took care of some other odds and ends while he was under the hood.

That included adjusting the throttle linkages.

As a a result, I have about 1/3 more throttle than I did before.

The downside is that the car upshifts way too early and I'm top gear before 30 miles an hour. Before, I could push the accelerator to the floor and it would hold longer..getting the expected 20-25 second0-80 time. Also, when climbing hills I could get it to downshift to help maintain speed. I can no longer get it to do that.

The mechanic indicated that I would need to replace a bushing in the shift linkage. He tried to diagram it in the shop but he might as well be speaking Greek.

I looked in the vicinity of the throttle/intake and saw a convoluted mess of brackets, linkages, and pins but didn't see where a bushing might go.

Can anyone give me any pointers? Tough job to replace?

Bumping this.

My local mechanic gave up adjusting the various linkages to get it to work.

Anyone have any clue as to what's going on? Internal transmission issues, perhaps?

The linkages are not adjusted properly. I would make the mechanic fix it properly.

There is a rod behind the exhaust manifold which goes to the tranny, disconnect it and shorten it.
