Which cruise control amplifiers will fit?

I talked to a mechanic about my cruise control not working, he said it's likely the amplifier. There are a few cars near me that are being parted out, and I'm just wondering which amplifiers will work. I hardly ever use cruise control, so if I can avoid buying a new one, great, and if I buy a used one and it quits too, then so be it, my life will still go on.

Aside from 124 models (I'm assuming all years will work for what I need), what other year/models will fit my 1991 300d? Someone has a 1995 320E, and I'm sure other models will work as well, but which ones?

Not trying to hijack this thread, but that is a very good question. Does anyone have a swap/compatibility list or know of one? While I do not have a W124, I would love to know if amps out of any other vehicles would work in my W123 (83 300D)

This is all I know.

Cruise control amp on gas and diesel cars most likely are not compatible.

Some older model years 190D, 300SDL, 300SD cruise amp are compatible.

Older model 300D seems to be different from others. The best way to find out is to look up the part # of the amp for the cars and see whether they match.

Wow!

I am surprised to see a 300E and 300D would use different amps!

According to the Germanstar dot net parts search, your amp (MB part 005 545 0532) was used in all 124's through 1992 and all 560SL's). If you get an amp from something other than a 2.5 Turbo, you'll want to use the coding plug on the amp you currently have.

Whether a DIFFERENT amp would work in your vehicle, I doubt it but am not sure.

Happy hunting! I just got one on Ebay for $20 including shipping that works perfectly.

I don't believe your gas/diesel observation is correct. As a case in point, the used 005 545 0532 that I just picked up came off a gasser but is exactly the right part.

Moreover, it is actually better, if you're going to pull a used amp, to get it from a gasser. Less vibration over its life (this acc. to Peter at GDL).

It seems that some cruise amp for newer MBZ, 199x onwards, are compatible between gas and diesel. The best approach is to check for the part number for a match.
