I bought a set off vstech, they were cheap and worked perfect!

I want to adjust the valves on the 240..

We aught to meet up, I've got a set of bent wrenches do to the valve adjustments but I've not done one yet on my 240d. That said, I've done valve adjustments on many different vehicles in the the past so I'm not scared. You'll need a new valve cover gasket but that's about it. Busy this weekend but the 8th and 9th is free and I was already planning on doing my own that same weekend.

Valve Adjustment - best/cheapest tools for the job (240D)

Wow, thanks, all! I sincerely appreciate all the replies! Got busy the last couple weeks and have sort of taken the focus off the 240D, and ironically, my slave cylinder went out a couple days ago! I have my shop taking care of that one for now. I plan on the valves here in a couple weeks--I've got a friend who's helping out with experience doing this. I don't have the necessary tools to grind and so forth, but I will probably end up grabbing some wrenches from someone on the forums.

Again, thanks for the info! I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Justin

I am in the process of adjusting the valves on my 300D and I used gearwrench brand wrenches and heated them with a propane torch for about 5 minutes and then bent them in my vise with the handle from my floor jack. Much easier to work with than normal wrenches and I didn't need to do any grinding.

I'm down with that. I don't really know anyone else local with a diesel benz. Would be nice to get together and compare notes.

Start a Get Together Thread..
ask for Sticky Status.....
Even if someone will not do a free demo valve adjustment on your car..seeing it done before doing it yourself .... worth a lot of trouble getting to wherever that demo is held.... very helpful...
BUT remember, valve settings should be done with the engine STONE COLD..... like not run that day.... so that makes a proper demo easier at someone 's house than some meet up place...

yeah, I've got a set of the fancy haz-whatever ones you're welcome to borrow. Just PM me, can ship them out. There should be someone closer that can do this though.
