A simple MOD question

If you replace the stock breather with an air filter going straight into the turbo, where does the breather tube out of the top of the valve cover port to? If you send it straight to the oil pan it would pressurize the case wouldn't it.

Crankcase is already pressurized enough.

In the old days it was vented to atmosphere.

No matter what kind of intake you should be able to pipe it into some of the intake plumbing.

I think you'll be challenged to find a better-than-stock air filter setup, why mess with a good thing? Need the space for sumpin else?

3 of cars have trampoline springs to dampen the vibration to keep the breather rattling and from breaking the breather bracket AGAIN. I just want to simplify things a bit on a couple of my cars.

Another question: I blocked off my EGR valve an checked my boost. Its 9 psi at WOT. I am happy with the power, but if I leave the fuel alone and increase boost via the waste gate will it increase my fuel economy at all?

You need a oil vapor separator unit- it takes the "pressure" (pressurized oil vapor and air) and converts the oil vapor to oil and allows it to drain back into the crankcase and the air gets sucked into the air intake. However the air and oil vapor are never 100% separated so some oil ends up coating the intake. I've plumbed mine via a stand alone 240D oil sep unit to the crankcase for the oil and then the "air" feeds into a vented catch can filled with fishing line. The fishing line creates surface area for the remaining oil vapor to cling to, and then less of it is vented to the atmosphere. I don't wish for my intake to be gunked up.

MTUpower, your intake won`t get gunked up with the oil vapor, it will if your EGR is working. then the soot mixed with the oil puts that nice slimy coating.

The 78 - 79 300SD W116 (not sure about the 80) ran the oil vapor line directly into the Turbo air intake "U" Tube.

i woldnt put a filter directly on the turbo unless you isolated it from the underhood heat. sucking up that heat is bad for the maf sensor and horsepower.

What Charlie said. block off EGR. Then install the filter of your choice. get a oil separator from a 240d (not sure the year) it can bolt to the fender if you want. then plumb the oil back into the pan, and the vent into the intake tube.

If you wanted to have a super clean looking install. get the manifolds from a 78-79 300SD. they don't have EGR at all... no one will know its blocked off if its completely gone

Definately use the oil seperator, it will cut down on oil consumption, and maybe save it from an untimely death if anything happens to cause much oil, or mist to form under the valve cover, which if sufficient in volume would result in a runaway engine..

Point of note for those not familiar....the 78 and 79 300SD had no oil seperator at all.
