Cool, thanks Whunter.
Does any perhaps have a source, or sources, for OM606 spare parts here in the US? My regular sources (Pelican included), do not seem to provide much on this (timing chain, glow plugs, turbo kit) for the 606. If I am looking in the wrong place, please direct me. Thanks :) |
Seeing as you're in the US of A you can get free access to MB USA's EPC (electronic parts catalogue). This is available via www.startekinfo.com
You do have to give a US credit card to make sure you're a US citizen (rather than some chap in Holland for example) but they do not charge you for EPC use. Make sure you don't buy WIS by accident! WIS is very expensive - EPC is free (for US citizens) |
TMog, have you tried asking an MB dealer? If you start with pricing from the dealer, then you'll have a baseline. Example: I bought the gasket kit for replacing the head on my OM603, aftermarket OEM, for $70. About a year later, I had to replace that head (long story) and I bought the gasket kit from the dealer, about $100. Some dealers offer better pricing than others, so shop around a bit. Sometimes an MBCA membership will get you a discount.
In addition, I think MB offers a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty on all their parts (except rebuilt transmission, I think those get two year / 20k miles), and the warranty is honored regardless of the garage that installs it (unless the part was installed incorrectly). |
Stretch, Thanks for the heads-up. i am a member of the EPC and use it frequently for G-wagon parts. I was just wondering if anyone had some notes on what parts (and numbers) would be required for a (light) rebuilt on an OM606.
I am researching a 606 swap into an older G and am taking inventory what all might be involved, both labor wise and financially before pulling the trigger. I am considering timing chain, tensioner, glow plugs, injectors. you know, small stuff. Then, it would be great if there was a complete rebuilt list available just like the one Whunter published for the 602.xxx. Maxbumpo, Honestly, due to the age of the engine, I assumed MB would not be a good source, similar to the 617 support. So i haven't considered it at all. Thanks for the tip. I'll check them out. Just FYI, my goal is to build an overland expedition G-wagon consisting of the following ingredients: - '85 - '89 300GD - OM606 with IC and turbo mods (aim: 200 - 250hp) - Dieselmeken 603 pump - 6 speed man trans (C220 CDI) - early stage of research - upgraded suspension for added gear weight After building a custom Mog (404) with OM617A swap, power steering and 8-speed trans conversion, this one will be a different type of challenge :) |
