Consider replacing the fuel lines in the engine bay while you're at it. The fuel lines to and from the cylinder head are formed (specific MB part number) but I was able to fit plain hose without much bending. Use OE style clamps which won't overtighten. Lots of them at wrecking yards.

It's fixed!

THANK YOU! Phil got the parts to me before this past weekend, and with Roy's help I made the repair. My car now starts-up just fine and there's no hint of any leaking fuel! Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions, and Sixto I'll contact you tomorrow about the spare lever you have for sale. Also, thanks for the suggestion about OEM hose clamps -- I took your advice and pulled lots of them from my local salvage yard. Maybe I'll post a pic later in the week (hey, it's my first serious repair and I want to bask in the glory of it!) I'm gonna have to clean that engine compartment sometime soon tho ... -Martin. |
