1982 Mercedes 300D Primary Fuel Filter...
I run my Mercedes on WCO and my mechanic recommended that I buy a 3/8 inch metal inline fuel filter to replace the plastic one. He said that it is bigger and lasts a long time and it has a metal screen that is easy to clean off and just put back on so that I wont have to keep buying the plastic ones... Does anyone know where I can purchase one? Thanks for your help!

1. You said WCO. You mean WVO I assume. 2. It would be best to ask this on the Alternative Fuels subforum of the Diesel forum (look up at the top of the main Diesel Discussion index). The diesel group here overall is very anti-WVO. It would be useful to know what sort of WVO system you have in place. You shouldn't be going through an unreasonable number of prefilters if your WVO is properly filtered/cleaned. I have heard of WVO people using cheaper plastic filter substitutes for the OEM prefilters, but never of a filter such as you describe nor do I readily see how one that would be that easily cleanable/resusable would do a proper job. Perhaps if your wrench is going to make such suggestions, he should be more specific and recommend an actual product.

I agree with Zacharias. If you're changing onboard filters often you might think about filtering better. My system has gone 13k miles with no VO filter changes and still wasn't showing signs of clogging. This will help you in two ways. One is you'll have to spend less time tinkering with you filters on the side of the road and at home, and two your system and car will work for much longer.

The better Filtering they are speaking of is Pre-Filtering the Veggie Oil through the commonly used (and they say washable) Filter Bags before the Oil even goes into the Fuel Tank.
Others use cheapie spin on Filters for the same purpose but with them you need a more complicated setup. The Stock Plastic Primary Filters filtration level is 20 nominal micron Filter. It does no harm at all to buy a larger Filter if that is what you want. The Hose ends on the Stock Primary Filter fit nicely with 5/16" Fuel Hose.
