I know how manual crank windows are, but you have electric, and a little cleaning and lube, and I bet they are fine. glad you are sticking with your car. this car really does not need a mechanic for the majority of what you mention is wrong. you can fix nearly everything with a little help from us on here! the odometer is a piece of cake to fix. the sunroof, does it open and close with help? sounds like a good cleaning and lube here too. or you could pull it out, and convert it to a manual sunroof! the antenna could be dirty, or bent. replacement masts are only a few dollars, and super simple to replace. so you have oil leaks, if they are not bad, consider them as good rust protection from the salt! if they are bad, some are easy to fix, some need mechanic. clean it up, and verify where the leak is, and post it up here.

You will notice that a large percentage of the people on this forum do almost all their own mechanicing... for all sorts of reasons.... doing it right the first time and knowing it is done right is nice... because the quality of the design and components means that it will be that way a long time once you invest in the fix....
While some of those things you need to fix are a pain... once fixed you should never have to address them again. If you have any doubts... about the master cylinder... do that first... a good relatively cheap fix with lots of learning potential.... or have it done... brakes are not something to have in the back of your mind and be able to enjoy a car... and might not be safe either.. I would weld up that always ready to leak hole in the roof.... and switch to roll up windows... you can see in my sig that I appreciate that.... I had an 81 wagon with electric windows and if you get caught with them down and not working... you can sure get some water into your car... or rolled up and no AC... very bad... manual windows are very reliable... I wish MB had made electric windows with some kind of fast emergency manual override ..... I do like to control the passenger side windows in my other cars from the driver's seat... Interesting that you are in the position of choosing between TWO manual transmission 240d's.... things could be worse... but I would keep the 82 myself and compare the cost of fixing it to the cost of new cars...which are computer controlled and you can not fix yourself... I paid $284 for a blower control module for my 2001 Lincoln yesterday... heater and AC work great except if there is not any air being blown by the fins.... a blower should not need a computer module to control it.... It was up under the windshield wiper tray... could not even get to it even though I could see it... NOT SO with my 240d !!!! The simplest car I have ever seen... so there are trade offs.. but the cheap ones favor our MB's...
