quick question about starters

so my starter crapped out on me today. i have a 87 300d. w124. can i just jack one from another w124? or are they all different?

It would have to be a diesel. Whether a 190D would be compatible, I don't know since I've never seen one. The diesel starters are rated for heavier service than their gasoline counterparts, and typically almost every diesel had a different mounting location, a different interface to the flywheel, etc, something to prevent it from interchanging. For example, from the 617 to the 603, the starter completely changed sides of the engine.

If you do a parts lookup for the 300D vs 190D, they are the same starter. The 300E is different.
